My name is Sarah Galdek and I am the Reading Resource teacher here at Divine Providence School. This is my thirteenth year of teaching and my thirteenth year here at DP. I grew up in Westchester and am an alumna of Divine Providence. I received my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, with a concentration in mathematics, from Elmhurst College. I have a Master’s degree from Concordia University. I am a certified Reading Specialist. I am happy to say that this year I will once again be working as the Reading Specialist. I look forward to working with all of the teachers and students to improve learning throughout the school. I work primarily with the Kindergarten through third grade students. We spend time not only practicing reading fluency but also work on letter recognition, phonemic awareness, rhyming skills and comprehension strategies. This is my second year as the Reading Specialist and I look forward to watching students grow in their reading abilities.
When I attended Divine Providence, Mrs. Blase was my second grade teacher. She made such an impression on me, that since that time I felt I also wanted to be a teacher. One of the reasons I love teaching is because it is such a rewarding job. Not only am I given the opportunity to guide students in their quest for learning and intellectual growth but also I am constantly learning from them.
